Cougars Blank Weber State

PROVO -- For the second match in a row, the BYU women's tennis team won its match 7-0, this time against Weber State on Friday in Provo.

"We really came out and executed very well," said BYU head coach Craig Manning. "We have been playing really well the last two weeks. I hope we can keep things going."

The Cougars secured the doubles point by winning at all three doubles positions, dropping only four games total to the Wildcats. Dominique Reynolds and Leeza Klempner of BYU teamed up at the No. 1 spot to beat Briana Beauchene and Alexandria Ilie 8-2. BYU's Nicole Schneider and Hadley MacFarlane kept their unbeaten streak alive by blanking Maria Bublik and Elana Smit 8-0 at the No. 2 doubles position. At the No. 3 spot, Rebecca Pike and Olga Boulytcheva of BYU defeated Chelsee Drews and Lora Bradley 8-2 to complete the doubles sweep.

The Cougars were able to sweep WSU in singles as well. All the matches were decided in only two sets with Klempner at No. 2 being the lone Cougar to go three sets. Klempner won the first set easily 6-1 before dropping the second set 1-6 and getting down 3-4 in the third. But she fought back and rattled off three straight games to win 6-3.

In addition to an undefeated doubles record, both Schneider and MacFarlane have yet to lose in singles this season. Schneider won at No. 5 by beating Drews 6-0, 6-2. MacFarlane defeated Karla Pretorius 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 singles position. Both girls have a 4-0 record on the season.

"This match was a good match for us," Manning said. "It will definitely help us get ready for tomorrow. Our match with Utah will be a bigger challenge."

BYU will face Utah on Saturday at noon in Provo.
