PROVO -- The No. 57 BYU women's tennis team (0-2) will be looking to win its first match of the season when they host Utah State (1-0) this Friday at 1 p.m. in Provo.

The Cougars dropped the first two matches of the season last week when they lost to No. 61 Kansas State 4-3 and to No. 44 Kansas by the same score. The two losses dropped the Cougars in the national rankings from No. 48 to No. 57.

The Cougars returned home from Kansas with key injuries to Lu Oswald and Rebecca Pike. BYU head coach Craig Manning didn't know if they would be able to play this weekend

"We're playing well right now," Manning said. "We played two really good teams on the road last week and gave them a really good run. The injuries some of the girls are dealing with are a bit of a setback, but we're just trying to work things out. We just need to focus on this week's match with Utah State."

The Aggies of Utah State come into this week's match with a 1-0 record. They defeated Montana State 6-1 last weekend at home.

"Utah State is a tough team, especially at the top of the lineup," Manning said. "I think we should have enough depth to overcome them though."

This week's match will be held at 1 p.m. this Friday at the BYU tennis courts or the indoor courts in case of inclement weather.
