BYU Women Host BYU Invitational
PROVO, Utah (September 25, 2002) The BYU women's tennis team begins its fall season by hosting the BYU Invitational this Thursday through Saturday.
BYU will compete with five other solid teams, including Boise State, Colorado State, Weber State, Utah State and in-state rival Utah.
"All six teams competing in the invitational this year are pretty good," said BYU head coach Craig Manning. "It's going to be a really good tournament."
Matches will be played on BYU's outdoor courts starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday. In case of inclement weather, matches will be moved to the indoor courts.
The invitational will feature one main-draw singles' flight and one doubles' flight. The finals for both the singles and doubles matches will take place on Saturday at 12 p.m.
This will be the first official tournament for the Cougars this season. Both players and coaches are anxious to see how things go.
"We are excited about this years invitational," said BYU head coach Craig Manning. "These early matches are designed to allow us some time to get things going."
Coach Manning said that winning isn't the most important thing this early in the season.
"We're just trying to find out what we need to improve on right now," he said. "We have a couple of girls that are playing well and others that are coming along. We don't want to be peaking just yet. It is much too early in the season."
