Women's Tennis Takes Road Match Against No. 59 Wisconsin

MADISON -- Led by senior Eline Chiew, the No. 51 BYU women's tennis team defeated No. 59 Wisconsin 6-3 in a dual meet Thursday.

Chiew, ranked No. 53 in singles, won both her number one singles match and her number two doubles match. She defeated April Gabler 6-3, 6-3 in singles and teamed up with freshman Lu Oswald to take the number two doubles win from Linde Mues and Katie Dougherty 8-6.

The Cougars took two of three doubles matches, also winning at number three doubles. Freshmen Liza Khoudoiarova and Dominique Reynolds defeated Shana McElroy and Vanessa Rauh 8-6. Gabler and Lara Vojnov, who are ranked 24th in the nation, defeated Jodi Richardson and Kim Kelly 9-7.

Kelly, who was named the Mountain West Conference women's tennis Player of the Week, won her singles match 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 over Mues, giving her four singles wins in a row. Richardson won the number two singles match 6-4, 6-3 over Rauh.

The Badgers won at number three and number five singles. Shana McElroy defeated Khoudoiarova 6-0, 6-2 at number three to earn her team-leading 17th singles win. Dougherty defeated Reynolds 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 at number five.

BYU will face No. 50 Kansas State in a dual match hosted by Wisconsin at 2 p.m.
