BYU Defeats Boise State 7-2 In Dual Match
PROVO -- Led by an impressive performance by senior Eline Chiew, the BYU women's tennis team defeated Boise State in a non-conference dual match 7-2 Friday. The win improves the Cougars to 7-4 overall.
Chiew, ranked No. 53 in the country in singles, led the way with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Pia-Lena Ander in number one singles. She also teamed with freshman Lu Oswald to win at number two doubles 8-3 over Catherine Rinaldi and Jemima Attard.
Despite only losing one singles match and one doubles match, the Cougars took some time to get going.
"They came out a little flat but they knuckled down when they had to to get the job done," BYU head coach Craig Manning said.
The bright spot for the Broncos was the play of Renate Stoop. Stoop won the number two singles match 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 over junior Jodi Richardson. She and Ander also teamed to win the number one doubles match 8-4 over Richardson and senior Kim Kelly.
