Cougars Lose Close One To SMU
PROVO -- The BYU women's tennis had their three match winning streak come to an end on Friday night when No. 63 ranked Southern Methodist defeated the Cougars, 4-3.
BYU, No. 39 in the nation, started out strong by winning the doubles point. Jodi Richardson and Brooke Ferney defeated Megan Russell and Chrissie Terrill, 8-5, and Lu Oswald and Lindsay Ferrell defeated Dee Dee Herring adn Siayareh Rambly, 8-7.
The Mustangs came back by defeating BYU's top two players in singles. Richardson and Ferney both lost in singles play. Herring defeated Richardson, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, and Russell defeated Ferney, 6-2, 6-3.
BYU's Dominique Reynolds and Oswald were the Cougars' only winners in singles play. Reynolds defeated Patricia Ubeda Diaz, 6-4, 6-2, and Oswald defeated Terrill, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). The tennis team continues its Texas road trip when they play Rice University on Saturday.
