Road Trip Ends With 6-1 Victory

PROVO -- In the final match of their Texas road trip, the BYU women's tennis team defeated Rice University, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon in Houston, Texas.

Because of bad weather conditions, the match was moved indoors. As they have the majority of the season, BYU started out with strong doubles play, winning all three matches and taking the point.

"We played well," said head coach Craig Manning. "They have been fighting like crazy. We barely lost to SMU yesterday, and then came in here and played great. The girls are really playing well."

In singles, the Cougars took the point at every position except for the number two spot, where Brooke Ferney lost in a close match to Judith Hagedorn, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Every other singles match was won in straight sets.

The Cougars will return home for a short break before they head back out on the road to take on Kansas, Kansas State and Notre Dame at Kansas on February 22, 23 and 24.
