Women Win At New Mexico

PROVO -- After nearly three weeks since their last meet, the BYU women's tennis team broke a four match losing streak by defeating the University of New Mexico, 5-2, in Albuquerque on Friday evening.

The Cougars dominated the doubles play, winning all three matches by four or more points. Brooke Ferney and Jodi Richardson won at the number one spot, 8-2, while Dominique Reynolds and Liza Khoudoiarova won at the two spot and Lu Oswald and Lindsay Ferrell won at the three spot, both by the score of 8-2.

"It was a good team effort," said BYU coach Craig Manning. "Everyone played very well, we fought hard."

In singles, the Cougars took the first three spots. Reynolds defeated Tjasa Suvak in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) at the number two spot, while Richardson and Ferney won at the one and three spots, respectively.

BYU improves to 7-6 on the season, and 2-0 in the conference, having defeated Colorado State in January in Provo. The Cougars will stay in Albuquerque to take on the Air Force Academy on Saturday at noon.
