Cougars Get Blanked By No. 1 Stanford
PROVO -- On a road trip to Las Vegas, the BYU women's tennis team lost to Stanford, the No. 1 team in the country, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon.
After two conference victories last week, BYU, 8-7 overall, 3-0 in the conference, faced a much more talented squad in Stanford than any other team they have faced this year. Stanford has the No. 1 singles player in the country in Laura Granville, who defeated Jodi Richardson, 6-4, 6-1, along with four other ranked players.
At the No. 6 spot, Liza Khoudoiarova gave Sarah Pestieau all she could handle, losing a close one, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).
In doubles, Richardson and Brooke Ferney took on the No. 1 team in the country in Lauren Barnikow and Lauren Kalvoria, but lost, 8-4. Stanford also boast the No. 2 doubles team in the country with Laura Granville and Gabriela Lastra, who defeated, Dominique Reynolds and Khoudoiarova, 8-3.
BYU will take on conference foe San Diego State on Friday in Las Vegas.
