Cougars Hang On In Close Victory

LAS VEGAS -- The 36th-ranked BYU women's tennis team won the doubles point to take the close 4-3 victory over No. 60 UNLV on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas.

The Cougars, 10-7 overall, 4-0 in the conference, beat the defending Mountain West Conference champions by winning at the two, four and six spots in singles and the two and three spots in doubles.

In doubles, UNLV's Paulina Janus and Agniesza Abram surprised the 22nd-ranked team of Jodi Richardson and Brooke Ferney at the top doubles spot with the 8-4 victory.

In singles, UNLV again pulled off the upset at the top spot when Janus defeated Richardson, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Dominique Reynolds, who has been playing well at the two spot, defeated Abram, 6-0, 6-2. Lu Oswald defeated Urska Radanovic, 6-2, 6-1, and Lindsey Ferrell defeated Amy Hadziosmanovic in a dramatic finish, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 to get the third singles victory needed to win the match.
