Instate Tennis Rivalry Won By Cougars In Provo

Provo, UT (April 7, 2001) In the red and blue women's tennis contest of the season it was the Cougar blue defeating the Utes red 6-1 in the MWC tennis contest, Saturday.

The win improves BYU's women's tennis record to 6-0 in conference and 11-7 overall. The Utes drop to 3-4.

In the doubles competition the Cougars picked up the 1-0 advantage after winning all three of the matches in a pro set format.

Five of the singles matches were also won by BYU in straight sets. Utah picked up its lone point winning at the number two singles spot where the Utes' Cassie Kasteler defeated Dominique Reynolds 6-4, 6-2.

Senior Jodi Richardson, ranked 37th nationally, led the Cougars in singles play with her straight set 6-2, 6-2 win over Utah's number one player Irini Kotoglou. Others picking up wins for BYU were Lu Oswald, Elizaveta Khoudoiarova, Lindsay Ferrell and Elyse Jensen.

The Cougars final home matches are this coming Friday and Saturday. BYU hosts conference foe Wyoming on the 13th and Fresno State on the 14th. Both matches will begin at noon. If BYU beats Wyoming on Friday they would be the number one seed in this year's MWC tournament.
