BYU Women Host BYU Invitational
The BYU women's tennis team begins its fall season by hosting the BYU Invitational this Thursday to Saturday. BYU will compete with four other solid teams, including Washington State, Boise State, Colorado State and in-state rival Utah.
"All five teams are pretty good," said BYU head coach Craig Manning. "It's going to be a really good tournament."
Matches will be played on BYU's indoor courts starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday. With the cold weather coming into the area, all of the tournament's matches will be played indoors.
The tournament will feature two singles' flights and one doubles' flight. The finals for the singles matches will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m., with the doubles final to be played at 12 p.m. on that same day.
BYU women's tennis players have already competed in some tournaments, but not together as the entire team. Lidsay Ferrell, Brooke Beverly and Lu Oswald all competed with Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms at the World Team Tennis Championships in San Diego. A few of the other Cougars competed in a tournament at Weber State University.
"We're just trying to find out what we need to improve on right now," Manning said. "Obviously we don't want to peak yet."
