No. 8 Tennessee Too Strong for No. 51 Cougars
KNOXVILLE -- Playing yet another strong team, the No. 51 BYU women's tennis team played hard but came up short against No. 8 Tennessee. Elizaveta Khoudoiarova won BYU's only match as the Lady Vols knocked off the Cougars 6-1.
Khoudoiarova, who has won all three matches so far on the current road trip, won at the No. 5 position 6-7, 6-0, 10-2. Khoudoiarova pushed her dual-match record to 6-2, including the current three-match winning streak. Lindsay Ferrell played well again at No. 1, fighting back in the second set before falling in a tiebreaker, 6-1, 7-6 (2). Dominique Reynolds pushed Crystal Cleveland to three sets at No.4, but Cleveland came out on top, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles, Khoudoiarova teamed up with Nicole Schneider at No. 3 and won 8-3. The Lady Vols won at No. 1 and No. 2 to take the doubles point, but BYU played well throughout the doubles matches.
BYU will play No. 36 Mississippi Friday afternoon. Following the conclusion of this road trip, the Cougars begin a long homestand Mar. 1. The Mar. 1 meeting with Kansas will be BYU's first home match in more than a month.
