Cougars to Battle Mustangs in Monday Home Match

PROVO -- After gaining nine places in the national rankings, the No. 43 BYU women's tennis team will host No. 62 SMU Monday at 5 p.m. The Cougars (4-7, 1-0) are coming off an impressive three-match streak, including an upset of No. 12 Washington and a narrow loss to No. 29 Washington State.

In last week's matches, all at home, Lu Oswald dominated at the No. 3 singles position. Oswald won all three matches against Kansas, Washington and Washington State, the final two in straight sets. Her only blemish of the weekend came in doubles against Washington, where Lindsay Ferrell and Oswald lost 9-8 at the No. 2 spot.

BYU will resume Mountain West Conference play in less than two weeks, starting with a match against UNLV. BYU has not played a conference match since Air Force in its first dual match of the season.

BYU will also host Kansas State and Rice on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Cougars will then take on Texas Christian University next Monday at home before heading off on the road again. The TCU match will end a seven-match homestand.
