No. 43 Cougars Fall Short Against Kansas State

PROVO, Utah (March 15, 2002) ? The No. 43 BYU women?s tennis team played well, but could not win enough matches to knock off No. 41 Kansas State Friday night. The Wildcats won the doubles point and three of the first four singles matches to lead them to a 4-3 win.

?They were just too good for us today,? BYU head coach Craig Manning said. ?We played well and the doubles and the singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 could have gone either way. We just happened to lose all three points.?

Dominique Reynolds and Nicole Schneider each won their singles matches after the team score was already decided. Reynolds won in straight sets yet again, and Schneider went to a 10-point tiebreaker in the third set to win.

Brooke Beverley, who teamed with Reynolds and won at No. 1 doubles, overpowered Petra Sedlmajerova at the No. 3 singles, winning the match 6-1, 6-2. The Cougars were unable to pull out any other matches though, and suffered their first loss to the Wildcats.

The Cougars will be back in action Saturday afternoon against Rice. The match will begin at 2 p.m. and the Cougars hope to get back to their winning ways.
