Cougars Come Up Short Against SDSU

LAS -- The BYU women's tennis team lost for the second straight day in Las Vegas, losing to Mountain West Conference opponent San Diego State, 5-2. The No. 31 Cougars (6-11, 1-2) were led by Brooke Beverley and Dominique Reynolds, but did not win enough matches to knock off the No. 39 Aztecs.

Reynolds, who won in straight sets at No. 5, has now won nine straight singles matches. Beverley won her match at No. 4 in three sets, 6-4, 6-7, 10-4. The third set was played as a 10-point tiebreaker because the outcome of the overall match had already been decided.

In doubles play, No. 32 Beverley/Reynolds came up short at No. 1, losing 8-5. BYU's other two teams, Lindsay Ferrell and Lu Oswald at No. 2 and Liza Khoudoiarova and Rebecca Pike at No. 3, both lost their matches.

The Aztecs were BYU's second straight MWC opponent, and second straight ranked opponent. The Cougars will resume MWC action Saturday against New Mexico in Salt Lake City.
