Cougars Claim Bragging Rights With 5-2 Win Over Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (April 12, 2002) ? The No. 40 BYU women?s tennis team won for the third consecutive time Friday afternoon, this time against arch-rival Utah, 5-2. The Cougars (9-12, 4-3) finished the regular season on a three-match win streak, and will now prepare to host the Mountain West Conference tournament from Apr. 25-27.

Lu Oswald led the Cougars in singles with a straight-sets victory at No. 1, 7-6, 6-4. Dominique Reynolds won at No. 3 in straight sets as well. Reynolds has now won 12 consecutive singles matches. Elizaveta Khoudoiarova and Nicole Schneider also picked up straight-sets victories to give the Cougars four points in singles play.

BYU took the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Oswald and Reynolds played together at No. 1 and won easily, 8-4. Lindsay Ferrell and Schneider trailed 4-0 in their match, but rallied to win 9-7 at No. 2.
