TEMPE, Ariz — The 2023 Division I Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Awards were released Monday, July 10, and BYU women's tennis was well represented.

BYU was recognized as a 2023 Division I ITA All-Academic team. In order to be to be nominated, the Cougars needed to have a team GPA of 3.2 or above.

In addition, four student-athletes within the program were recognized as ITA Division I Scholar-Athletes, including Emilee Astle, Bobo Huang, Madison Smith and Kara Wheatley. For student-athletes to be eligible as ITA Scholar-Athletes, they needed to maintain a GPA of at least a 3.5.

“We are really proud of these girls," said head coach Holly Hasler. "Within our team, we are consistently encouraging success in the classroom. They have such a rigorous schedule and it takes a lot of hard work, discipline, and time management to receive Academic Honors such as this."

The Cougars have been named as an ITA All-Academic team in back-to-back years and had six athletes awarded in 2022.

BYU will look to compete in its first season in the Big 12 Conference beginning this fall.
