Cougars defeat Broncos 4-0 for second-straight WCC win
SANTA CLARA, Calif – BYU women's tennis defeated Santa Clara 4-0 on Saturday night for its second WCC victory on the road. The Cougars improved to 5-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
Doubles
- Astle/Huang (BYU) UF. Hayer/Kalinic 4-5
- Moore/Li (BYU) def. Gordon/Feng 6-3
- Jiao/Wheatley (BYU) def. Zlotnik/Carter 6-2
Order of finish: 3, 2
Jiao and Wheatley, at no. 3 doubles, secured the victory as Jiao is now 3-0 in doubles matches on the year while Wheatley gained her sixth win (6-2).
Li and Moore, at no. 2 doubles, obtained their fourth doubles win of the year. The win clinched the Cougars the doubles point, while the tandem is now 4-3 on the season.
Astle and Huang, at no. 1 doubles, were trailing 4-5 before the match was brought to a halt due to BYU already clinching the doubles point.

- Emmie Moore (BYU) UF. Giulia Hayer 3-6, 6-1, 1-3
- Helen Jiao (BYU) def. Kasey Feng 6-1, 6-1
Order of finish: 6, 3, 4
Jiao, at no. 6, obtained her second singles win of the year (2-1).
Dunyon, at no. 3, won her seventh singles match of the season and is now 7-1.
Li, at no. 4, secured her sixth singles win of the year and clinched the overall match for the Cougars. The freshman is now 6-2 on the season.
Huang, Astle and Moore's matches all went unfinished.
The Cougars return to action next week, Friday, Mar. 10 against Boise State. The home match will begin at 11:00 a.m. MST.
