Cougars close out regular season with fourth straight home win

Leah Heimuli and Kara Lin celebrate a doubles point for BYU

PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s tennis defeated Saint Mary’s 4-2 Saturday to conclude regular season play, finishing with a record of 11-14, which included four consecutive wins at home to finish things off.

It was Senior Day, and the Cougars honored both Anastasia Abramyan and Leah Heimuli before the match. Both seniors would factor in prominently early in the match, with Heimuli and Kara Lin handling the No. 2 doubles match 6-0. It was the duo's first doubles decision together this season. Abramyan and Bobo Huang would secure the doubles point for BYU in a nail-biting 7-6 decision with both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles in tie-breaking points.

In singles play, Abramyan made quick work of her opponent in the No. 2 match, winning 6-1, 6-1. The No. 1 singles wrapped up next, with Mariia Kozyreva defeating Heimuli 6-1, 6-1. Bobo Huang continued her impressive freshman season with a 6-1, 6-4 victory, her team-leading 13th singles victory this season and fifth consecutive win. Lene Mari Hovda defeated Emilee Astle next, to bring the score to 3-2, entering the final two singles matches. Both Xenia De Luna and Kara Lin battled in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches, and Lin clinched the BYU victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win.

Next up for the Cougars is the West Coast Conference Tournament, starting Thursday.
