Women's tennis falls to rival Utah
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – BYU women’s tennis fell to rival Utah 4-0 Friday night at the George S. Eccles Tennis Courts. The Cougars move to a 4-7 record while going 1-5 on the road this season.
BYU lost its first doubles point in three weeks as Utah took the first point. Senior Leah Heimuli and junior Helen Jiao were swept 6-0 in the No.1 spot, falling to Linda Huang and Madison Tattini. Senior Anastasia Abramyan and freshman Bobo Huang put up a fight before falling to Anastasia Goncharova and Emily Dush 6-3, securing the Utes' second win and first point. Junior Emilee Astle and sophomore Kara Lin did not finish their match against Lindsay Hung Katya Hersh.
The Cougars dropped their singles matches to the Utes in hard-fought battles. Heimuli played a close first set with Linda Huang before being defeated 5-7, 1-6 in her match at the No.1 spot. Jiao took on Tattini, falling 0-6, 3-6, and freshman Madison Smith lost her match 0-6, 3-6 to Lamoreaux. Utah picked up the three singles points needed to secure the win, leaving the final three matches unfinished.
BYU looks to overcome the setback as the team travels next week to Logan to take on Utah State on March 4 at 11 a.m. MST.
