Lin earns singles win, BYU falls 6-1 to Washington State
PULLMAN, Wash. – BYU women’s tennis fell to Washington State 6-1 in Friday’s match at the Simmelink Tennis Courts, avenging its 4-3 loss to BYU last season in Provo.
BYU put up a fight in all three of its doubles matches. Senior Anastasia Abramyan and freshman Bobo Huang lost 6-4 to Michaela Bayerlova and Maxine Murphy in the No. 1 spot. Senior Leah Heimuli and freshman Jacque Dunyon competed in the No. 2 spot and fell 7-5 in their match against Yang Lee and Fifa Kumhom. Junior Emilee Astle and sophomore Kara Lin were defeated 6-4 by Savanna Ly-Nguyen and Elyse Tse in the No. 3 spot.
BYU was able to secure its only win of the day through Lin in a close, three-set match against Stefaniia Mikhailova 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7). Abramyan pushed her singles match to three sets before falling to Murphy 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. Washington State swept the remaining singles matches. Dunyon was defeated by Bayerlova 6-1, 6-3, Heimuli fell 6-3, 7-5, Huang lost 6-4, 7-6 (6) to Tse and freshman Madison Smith was defeated 6-2, 6-3 by Kumhom.
BYU will take on the Washington Huskies in its next match on Jan. 22 at Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Washington at 4 p.m. PST.
