SANTA CLARA, Calif. – BYU women’s tennis (15-7, 4-2 WCC) bounced back from last week’s set back, dominating from start-to-finish in a 5-2 route of Santa Clara on Friday afternoon.

The Cougars came out firing, clinching the doubles point quickly. Emilee Astle and Kara Lin dominated Jamie Schroer and Varya Zlotnik in No. 3 doubles, 6-1. With the win, Astle and Lin move to a stellar 6-0 on the season in doubles matches. Leah Heimuli and Madeline Wanlass clinched the doubles point for BYU with a dominant outing of their own defeating JennaMarie Gordon and Giulia Hayer, 6-2.

Lin picked up her third-straight singles win, retiring Hayer, 6-0, 3-0, in the second set. Just a few minutes later, Heimuli put away Kalinic, 6-2, 6-1, to give BYU a commanding 3-0 lead. Schroer kept things interesting as she defeated Jiao, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 doubles.

The win was clinched by senior Anastasia Abramyan in a 6-4, 6-3 win over Gordon in the No. 1 singles match. Katherine Petty tacked on another point for the Broncos, beating Astle, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, but Wanlass ended the day on a high note for the Cougars, outlasting Zlotnik, 6-4, 6-3. Wanlass has a winning percentage of .846 in singles matches and is now 5-1 in conference play.

BYU will play its final road match of the season tomorrow, April 17, at San Francisco. The Dons are 10-6 on the season and 2-3 in WCC play, riding a three-match losing streak. The road finale is slated to begin at 2 p.m. PDT. There will not be any live stream or live stats available.
