STOCKTON, Calif. – BYU women’s tennis (12-6, 2-1 WCC) took care of Pacific, 5-2, on Saturday at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center to split the Bay Area road trip after falling to Saint Mary’s on Friday. With the win, the Cougars move back above .500 in conference and will have a chance to add another win in league play next week when they host Gonzaga.

Similar to the match yesterday, the Cougars jumped out to an early lead, clinching the doubles point after the first two matches. Leah Heimuli and Madeline Wanlass picked up a 6-1 win over Danielle Zamora and Zoe Eberle. Minutes later, Emilee Astle and Kara Lin gave BYU a one-point advantage with a 6-2 win over LeRoy and Maile Brilhante. Anastasia Abramyan and Helen Jiao were leading Klara Kosan and Maya Lopez, 5-3, but their match went unfinished.

BYU earned its second and third points of the day with Astle and Wanlass each collecting quick wins in singles play. Astle defeated Brilhante for a second time, 6-2, 6-1, while Wanlass took care of LeRoy, 6-2, 6-1. Kosan kept the Tigers in it with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Abramyan in No. 1 singles, but Heimuli ended any chance at a comeback when she posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Eberle.

The teams decided to play on and split the remaining two matches. Jiao got the best of Zamora, 7-5, 6-1, before Lopez closed the day with a 7-6 (1), 6-4 victory over Lin.

The Cougars return to Provo next week to host Washington State on Thursday, April 1 and Gonzaga on Saturday, April 3. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. MDT. Live stats will be available, and a live stream will be provided, should either match be played indoors.
