BYU plays first home WCC match against San Francisco, Washington State

PROVO, Utah – For the first time this season, the BYU women’s tennis team will compete at home against a West Coast Conference opponent. The San Francisco Dons come to Provo this Friday, Mar. 1 to play the Cougars and the following day, BYU will take on Washington State.

Sophomore Polina Malykh in the No. 4 and No. 5 singles slots, remains undefeated (6-0) in singles play this season. Despite BYU’s (4-3, 1-1 WCC) loss to No. 41 Gonzaga Saturday, Malykh defeated Domonique Garley 6-2, 6-4.

San Francisco (1-5) looks to bounce back after being swept Saturday afternoon by Cal State, Fullerton, 4-0. The Dons will get their first WCC play of the regular season Friday against the Cougars. San Francisco was picked to finish 9th in the league by the Coaches Preseason Poll.

Washington State defeated visiting Eastern Washington on Saturday, 7-0 to earn the sweep and improve to 10-1 on the season. Tiffany Mylonas and Guzal Yusupova at No. 2 doubles remain undefeated (10-0) on the season. BYU is 6-8 all-time against Washington State.

The match Friday against San Francisco will begin at 12:00 p.m. MST at the Indoor Tennis Courts and Saturday’s promptly at 10:00 a.m. MST.

Live streaming and stats for both matches will be available on BYU’s online schedule. Admission is free and complimentary pizza is provided to all spectators at each match.
