San Diego hosts Cougars to open WCC play
SAN DIEGO – Nearing the midway point of the 2017 season, the BYU women's tennis team begins its West Coast Conference schedule against San Diego on Wednesday, March 15 at 1:30 PDT at the Skip & Cindy Hogan Tennis Center in San Diego.
The Cougars (3-7, 0-0 WCC) look to improve on a sixth place finish in the WCC last season. Three Cougars received All-WCC honors last season including senior Mayci Jones and senior Savannah Ware-Avina was named to the All-WCC Tournament Team. Leading the Cougars at first singles, Ware-Avina will attempt to collect her third straight singles victory after wins against Fresno State and Middle Tennessee. BYU defeated San Diego 5-1 at home last season.
San Diego (4-7, 0-0 WCC), finished one place back from BYU last season in the WCC. So far this season the Toreros have earned wins over Brown, San Diego State, Cal State Northridge and UC San Diego, and look to rebound after a 5-2 loss against Long Beach State. San Diego is led in singles by freshman Daniela Morales who holds an 8-2 record this season.
After the dual match in San Diego, the Cougars return to host four consecutive opponents the end of the month.
