PROVO, Utah – BYU women's tennis begins West Coast Conference play with matches against San Francisco and Portland this upcoming week.

The Cougars will host San Francisco on Tuesday, March 1, at 11 a.m. MST at the BYU indoor courts before traveling to Oregon to face Portland on Friday, March 4, at 1:30 PST at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.

"Facing San Francisco at home is going to be a great opportunity for us to build some momentum as a team," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "We have a talented team and we just have to believe that in order to play at our best."

The Cougars (1-7, 0-0) look to rebound after a loss at No. 66 Utah. The Cougars finished fifth in the WCC last season with a 5-3 record and were picked to finish fourth in the WCC coaches' preseason poll.

The Dons (0-7, 0-1) finished third in the WCC last season with a 7-2 conference record and are coming off a 6-1 loss against UC Santa Barbara. BYU leads 4-1 in the all-time series between the two teams.

Portland (1-5, 0-0), picked to finish one spot ahead of the Cougars in the WCC coaches' preseason poll, finished second last season with a 7-2 record. Earlier this season, the Pilots defeated No. 72 Harvard 4-3. BYU holds a 6-7 all-time record against Portland.

Admission is free to the public and free pizza will be provided. Fans can also follow the matches live
