Cougars picked to finish 4th in WCC Preseason Poll
SAN BRUNO, Calif.– The BYU women’s tennis team has been selected to finish fourth in the upcoming 2016 West Coast Conference season.
No. 18 Pepperdine was chosen unanimously out of the 10-team conference to win the league this season. The Waves finished last season 18-7 and won their third consecutive WCC title. Currently, the Waves top singles player is ranked No. 14 and the top doubles partners are ranked No. 8 and No. 18.
No. 47 Saint Mary’s was chosen to finish second, while No. 66 Portland is slated to finish third.
BYU was selected along with San Francisco for the fourth spot with both teams receiving 51 points.
Gonzaga and San Diego were both selected for sixth. Santa Clara, Pacific and Loyola Marymount rounded out the bottom half of the conference.
The Cougars were ranked No. 72 last season when they fell in the quarterfinals of the WCC tournament to No. 37 St. Mary’s. They return seven players from last season.
