Miclat, Beckman outlast rain and advance to doubles semifinal
PROVO, Utah -- After a rainy day of play in Las Vegas, BYU's Toby Miclat and Taylah Beckman won two matches Friday to advance to the doubles semifinal at the ITA Regional Championships.
"Toby and Taylah are playing really well together this tournament," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "New Mexico was a tough team but we were aggressive and pulled out the win. I'm happy to see them competing in the semifinals."
Miclat and Beckman defeated Colorado State's Celine Voss and Caroline Henderson 8-2 to advance to the round of eight. In their second match of the day, the Cougars defeated New Mexico's Andrea Leblanc and Rachana Bhat in a closely contested match 8-7 (4) to advance to the doubles semifinal.
In singles play, junior Savannah Ware fell 6-1, 6-5 to UNLV's Aiwen Zhu after play was delayed two hours due to rain. In the consolation draw, Miclat held a 6-3, 3-0 lead before play was again suspended due to rain.
Doubles quarterfinal play will continue tomorrow on UNLV's campus at the Ferttita Tennis Complex.
