Ware advances to Round of 16 at ITA Regionals
PROVO, Utah -- BYU's Savannah Ware won both of her singles matches Thursday to advance to the Round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championships held this week at the UNLV campus.
"Savannah played great today. She looked confident and the results showed," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "She's focused and playing to win."
Ware, seeded eighth in the singles draw, defeated Montana State's Linda Vink in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the Round of 32. Against Colorado's Jeannez Daniel in her second match of the day, Ware won the first set 6-2 and trailed 0-1 before Daniel retired resulting in Ware advancing.
In doubles action for the Cougars, junior Toby Miclat and freshman Taylah Beckman defeated Denver's Morgan Barnhill and Charlotte Derbyshire 8-4 to advance to the Round of 16 while Ware and sophomore Brittanie Eraso fell 8-4 to Blanca Szavay and Hanneke Lodewijks of Northern Arizona. Miclat and Beckman are seeded eighth in the doubles draw.
Tournament action continues tomorrow at the Fertitta Tennis Complex with Ware competing in the round of 16 singles play and Beckman and Miclat competing in the doubles quarterfinals.
