PROVO, Utah --  After competing in the BYU Invitational, seven members of the Cougar women's tennis team will travel to play in the Cal Nike Invitational tournament held Oct. 2-4. The tournament will feature players from 14 different schools and will be hosted by the University of California, Berkley.

"The Cal Nike Invitational is a great tournament because of all the competition," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "We will have matches against teams and players we may not see during the season. It gives us a great opportunity to see how we have progressed from the BYU invitational and what we need to do to be ready for the ITA Regional tournament."

BYU's Taylah Beckman, Demi Daniels, Brittanie Eraso, Toby Miclat, Nicolette Poulsen, Erica Valimaki and Savannah Ware will be playing in the tournament. Each will compete in both singles and doubles action.

"The girls have been working hard," Jones-Spencer said. "They're playing faster and sharper since the BYU Invitational so I am excited to see them compete this weekend."

Players from Arizona State, Cal Poly, Cal Berkley, UC Davis, Fresno State, Nevada, Sacramento State, San Jose State and UC Santa Barbara are participating. Fellow West Coast Conference teams Pacific, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, and Santa Clara join BYU in the individual fall tournament as well.

Matches will be played at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts. Doubles action will begin Friday at 8:30 a.m. PT and singles play will start at 9:45 a.m. Fans can watch the matches through a live video stream.
