PROVO, Utah -- BYU's Brittanie Eraso advanced to the consolation semifinal while fellow Cougars Toby Miclat and Taylah Beckman reached the doubles final but were defeated 6-2 by Washington State's Donika Bashota and Lize Leeknecht in the BYU Invitational held Friday at the outdoor tennis courts.

"Right now we're heading in the right direction," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "Today went fine, but we just need to play more tennis so we can make improvements."

Miclat and Beckman defeated Boise State's Teal Vosburgh and Milena Toseva (6-1) in their first match of the day to qualify for the final.

"Toby and Taylah played great and showed a lot of confidence in their first match," coach Jones-Spencer said. "In the final they were a little out of sync and weren't quite able to pull it off but I think they'll do really well in the tournaments moving forward."

Eraso qualified for the back draw semifinal. She was victorious in both of her Friday matches, defeating Jenna Kane of Utah State (6-4, 6-2) and Victoria Matejevic of Washington State (7-6 (4), 6-3).

"Brittanie fought hard and you could tell that she wanted it today," coach Spencer-Jones said. "She came out determined and she showed it on the court with two great wins. I was proud of her."

Eraso will face Boise State's Nancy Menjivar in the back draw semifinal, while on the other side of the draw, BSU's Bobbi Oshiro will face WSU's Lize Leenknecht. Both of those matches begin at 9 a.m.,with the final at 11 a.m.

BSU's Teal Vosburgue and WSU's Donika Bashota will face off in the singles draw final at 10 a.m.

Other members of the BYU tennis team will be playing practice matches beginning at 9 a.m. The event is free and open to the public and all of the matches are being played on the outdoor tennis courts on the BYU campus.
