Seniors lead No. 60 Cougars to win on senior day

PROVO, Utah – Senior Morgan Anderson-Littlewood led No. 60 BYU women’s tennis to a 6-1 victory over West Coast Conference foe Gonzaga Friday in her last home match as a Cougar.

The Cougars (9-11, 4-4) battled to win the doubles point and grab a 1-0 lead over the Zags. On their senior day, Anderson-Littlewood and Meghan Sheehan-Dizon maintained their dominant doubles play with a convincing 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Gonzaga (11-6, 2-4) responded with a 6-3 victory over Brittanie Eraso and Toby Miclat at No. 1. The point came down to No. 2 doubles where Savannah Ware and Nicolette Tran powered their way to a 7-5 triumph.

BYU didn’t slow down in singles play, winning the first three matchups in straight sets to clinch the overall match win. Ware was first off the court after defeating Kylie Peek 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Nicolette Tran took her match against Samantha Polayes 6-3, 6-4.

Anderson-Littlewood clinched the match for the Cougars at No. 5 singles with a 7-5, 6-2 win. After the match was clinched, Miclat and Erica Valimaki picked up two more points for BYU with wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles. Miclat beat Alex Bourguignon 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 while Valimaki was victorious in her matchup with Franziska Koehler 7-5, 6-1, 1-0. Sheehan-Dizon fell at No. 1 singles to end the match.

The win ended a four-match losing streak for the Cougars and brought them back to .500 in WCC play. BYU hits the road next week to play Long Beach State and San Diego next Friday and Saturday.
