PROVO, Utah – Junior Nicolette Tran led No. 52 BYU women’s tennis to a 6-1 victory over Loyola Marymount Friday afternoon in Provo.
“The team played really solid tennis today,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “LMU is a good team but our girls came out strong mentally and got the job done.”
The Cougars (6-6, 2-2) set the tone early in the doubles matches. The duo of Morgan Anderson-Littlewood and Meghan Sheehan-Dizon were first off the court early with a 6-1 victory over Andrea Crespo and Julia Norlin. Tran and Savannah Ware clinched the doubles point at No. 2 doubles shortly after by beating Jessica Perez and Ellie Grossman 6-4.
BYU didn’t slow down in singles outplaying the Lions in all but one singles match. Four Cougars won sets without surrendering a game in their match. Tran led the way from the No. 2 slot with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Crespo. Savannah Ware followed suit at No. 3 singles with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win in her matchup with Kristine Kouyoumjian.
Erica Valimaki got on the board from No. 6 singles to clinch the match for BYU, beating Piller 6-3, 6-0. Anderson-Littlewood delivered another strong performance for the Cougars at No. 5, winning 6-1, 6-2 while Toby Miclat pulled out the final match of the day for BYU in a 10-point, third-set tiebreak 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 1-0 (13-11).
The Cougars are back on the court Saturday at noon to take on the Oregon Ducks at noon. Live stats are available through the BYU women’s schedule page.
