First conference match for Cougars
PROVO, Utah – No. 65 BYU women’s tennis opens up conference play Friday at home when they host Portland at 10 a.m. MST in the indoor tennis courts.
“We have played some good, tough matches heading into conference play this year,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “Conference play is what we look forward to each season and we think the matches we have played so far will help us moving forward. We are looking forward to Friday.”
The Cougars (3-4) return home after two tough losses in Arizona over the weekend to No. 37 Arizona and No. 29 Arizona State. Sophomore Savannah Ware continued her stellar play winning both her singles matches on the weekend and applying pressure to the Sun Devils Saturday with a doubles win with teammate Nicolette Tran.
Portland (4-1) comes to Provo after sweeping a doubleheader at Lews and Clark College and having only lost one match on the season against No. 34 Oklahoma in a close match. The Pilots are lead by Lucia Butkovska who is ranked No. 70 nationally in singles play.
Live stats and video will be available at match time through the BYU women’s tennis schedule page.
