PROVO, Utah – Sophomores Mayci Jones and Toby Miclat led No. 55 BYU women’s tennis to a 6-1 victory over Boise State Friday at home.

“It was nice to come back home and get a good win,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “All of the girls were playing their game and stepped up well today.”

Nicolette Tran and Savannah Ware led the charge out of the gates by taking the first doubles match 6-1 over Ari Paules Aldrey and Megan LaLone. Jones and Miclat quickly followed after capping off a 6-3 win in their matchup with Bobbi Oshiro and Sammie Watson. The Cougar duo of Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Morgan Anderson-Littlewood were up 5-3 when their match was called since the double point had already been won.

Heading into singles play up 1-0, BYU did not let up. Sheehan-Dizon, playing at No. 2 singles, was first off the court after a dominating 6-1, 6-1 win over Boise State’s Milena Toseava.  Jones finished next by beating Teal Vosburgh 6-3, 6-1 before Miclat clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Aldrey.

The Cougars picked up two more points on the afternoon coming from Ware and Anderson-Littlewood. Ware bounced back from a first-set loss to dominate sets two and three on her way to a 1-6, 6-0, 6-0 victory.  Anderson-Littlewood outlasted Oshiro 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4). In the final match of the day, Tran fell to LaLone 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5).

BYU travels next weekend to Arizona for a doubleheader against two ranked opponents. On Friday February 13 the Cougars visit No. 36 Arizona in Tucson before heading to Tempe Saturday for a matchup with No. 27 Arizona State.
