Miclat and Anderson-Littlewood in consolation quarterfinals
TEMPE, Ariz. – Sophomore Toby Miclat advanced into the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket Friday at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe. After losing her first-round match in the main draw, Miclat beat Johanna Vang of Northern Arizona in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 to advance to the consolation quarterfinals Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Senior Morgan Anderson-Littlewood was the only Cougar to advance past the first round of the main draw as she beat Michigan’s Annie Wierda in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Anderson-Littlewood fell in her second round match to No. 2 seed Stephanie Vlad of Arizona State 6-0, 6-1. She will compete in the quarterfinals of the Maroon Draw Consolation bracket Saturday at 11 a.m.
“We had a hard time bringing good energy to our matches today,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “We are looking to pick up the intensity for our matches tomorrow.”
Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Nicolette Tran join Miclat and Anderson-Littlewood in consolation brackets Saturday. Both Cougars lost their first-round matches in the main and Sparky Consolation draws Friday and will compete in the Sparky Consolation back draw at 11 a.m.
Both Cougar doubles teams lost in their matches Friday in tiebreakers. The duo of Tran and Miclat lost to a duo from ASU 8-7 (5) while Sheehan-Dizon and Anderson-Littlewood fell to a duo from Fresno State 8-7 (2). Doubles matches Saturday will be determined when play begins in the morning.
