Jones and Miclat reach doubles final
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Mayci Jones and Toby Miclat reached the finals of the USTA/ITA Regional Championships Saturday in Albuquerque. Jones also reached the semifinals of the singles main draw before having to withdraw due to injury.
“We played an amazing doubles match today,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “That Utah team was a good team but we really controlled the match.”
The Cougar duo’s semifinal match was against a doubles team from rival Utah. Jones and Miclat won in dominating fashion, beating the Ute duo 6-0, 6-1. Due to BYU policy regarding participation on Saunday, the Cougar duo will withdraw from Sunday’s final.
“Mayci was able to pull out a win in her quarterfinal match,” Jones-Spencer said. “In her semifinal match she tried playing but couldn’t play all-out due to an arm injury.”
The Cougars return home to prepare for the ASU Invitational, their final fall tournament, Nov. 7-8.
