Jones playing well at ITA Regionals

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Sophomore Mayci Jones continued to advance Friday at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships in Albuquerque. Jones moved into the quarterfinals of the main singles draw and semifinals of the doubles draw with teammate Toby Miclat.

"Mayci played really confidentally in singles today and pulled out a great win," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. 

In her lone singles match Friday, Jones defeated New Mexico’s Dominique Dulski 6-3, 6-4 to advance into the quarterfinals. She will play her quarterfinal match Saturday against Sarah Richter of Utah. Meghan Sheehan-Dizon also competed in the main singles draw Friday but fell in her round of 16 match to Ashvarya Shrivastava of New Mexico State 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Katie Fitt was also on the court Friday playing in the consolation bracket and advanced into the quarterfinals.

"Toby and Mayci played well in both their doubles matches today," Jones-Spencer said. "They need to keep their momentum going into the semifinals."

Jones and Miclat won both of their doubles matches on Friday to advance into Saturday’s semifinal, beating duos from UNLV and Denver 8-4 and 8-3, respectively. They square off against a pair from Utah in the semifinal. The other two Cougar doubles teams fell in the round of 16 Friday. Sheehan-Dizon and Morgan Anderson-Littlewood lost to a duo from Denver 8-7 (3) and Savannah Ware and Nicolette Tran fell to a team from Utah 8-7 (4).
