“We looked great in our doubles matches today,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said.

Seniors Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Morgan Anderson-Littlewood led the charge, dominating their first round match against a team from the University of San Francisco (8-0) as the No. 3 seed in the Gold Doubles draw. In the same bracket, the duo of Nicolette Tran and Savannah Ware also won their first round match, beating a UC Davis team (8-3).

Sophomores Mayci Jones and Toby Miclat teamed up to beat a team from Pacific (8-5) in the Blue Doubles bracket. In the White Doubles draw, Fitt and fellow freshman Brittanie Eraso advanced the quarterfinals of doubles by ousting a team from Nevada (8-7). All quarterfinal doubles matches will be played on Saturday.

Fitt beat Sara Korzeniecki of Nevada (6-3, 6-1) in the round of 16. She is the only Cougar to advance into the quarterfinals in singles play. Jones, Sheehan-Dizon and Tran all won their first round matches in the Blue Singles draw before falling in the second round. Tran came up just short of pulling an upset over No. 2 seed Denise Starr of Cal (3-6, 6-0, 6-4). Ware, Anderson-Littlewood and Eraso all also won their first round matches before losing in the round of 16.

“Singles went pretty well but we should have pulled out a few more matches,” Jones-Spencer said. “Nicolette played really well but unfortunately wasn’t able to pull off the upset against Cal.”
