PROVO, Utah – After three consecutive three-set matches, Cougar senior Meghan Sheehan-Dizon won quickly in the BYU Invitational final, beating teammate Nicolette Tran in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) Saturday.

Final Results and Brackets

"Meghan had a great tournament," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "She played better each match throughout the weekend."

Sheehan-Dizon’s victory completed the sweep of singles and doubles for the Cougars in their first tournament of the season. Tran also had a very impressive tournament, adding the doubles title with teammate Savannah Ware to an impressive singles-draw run.

Ware and freshman teammate Katie Fitt also competed Saturday morning in the consolation bracket. Ware won her semifinal easily, beating Wyoming’s Christa Gecheva (6-2, 6-4). Fitt lost in her semifinal to another Cowgirl, Dorottya Jonas, in a tiebreaker (6-4, 2-6, 10-8). Ware then beat Jonas in the consolation final (6-3, 6-4).

"Savannah played really well and I think Katie also played well as a freshman in her first college tournament," Jones-Spencer said. "The team had a great showing this weekend and there are some good things we will take from this tournament as we head to next weekend."

The Cougars look to build on this weekend’s strong performance as they head to the Cal Nike Invitational next weekend in Berkeley, Calif. from Thursday Sept. 25 through Saturday Sept. 27.
