Three Cougars move into quarterfinals at BYU Invitational

PROVO, Utah – Senior Morgan Anderson-Littlewood led the Cougars in a strong showing for BYU women’s tennis on day one of the BYU Invitational. Anderson-Littlewood won both of her matches on the day to move into the quarterfinals with teammates Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Nicolette Tran.

“I thought we did a good job competing today,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “We played some solid tennis and pulled out some wins.”

Anderson-Littlewood won both matches in straight sets beating Katie Sweet of Utah State (6-1, 6-4) in the first round and Dorottya Jonas of Wyoming (6-4, 6-2) in round two. She will face No. 1 seed, McKenzie Davis of Utah State Friday at 1 p.m.

Sheehan-Dizon and Tran both had first-round byes then won in the second round to move on to the quarters. Sheehan-Dizon beat Lexi Turley of Utah State in an exciting three-set match (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) while Tran won in straight sets, beating Nastya Tokareva of Wyoming (6-2, 6-3). Both will also play their quarterfinal matches Friday at 1 p.m. The semifinals for singles play will follow at 3:30 p.m.

Sheehan-Dizon and Anderson-Littlewood teamed up to continue their dominance from last season in doubles play with a victory over Amber Suhlmann and Sweet of Utah State (8-3) after a first-round bye. The BYU duo of Tran and Ware also received a first-round bye and went on to win their second round match against Cecilia Mercier and Silviya Zhelyazkova of Wyoming (8-0). Both semifinal matches will start at 9 a.m. and the doubles final will be played at 11 a.m.

Freshman Brittanie Eraso and sophomore Demi Daniels both fell in the first round Thursday to Christa Gecheva of Wyoming (6-1, 6-3) and Sabrina Demerath of Utah State (6-0, 6-1), respectively. Sophomore Savannah Ware won her first-round match in straight sets against Maggie O’Meara of Utah State (6-4, 6-3) but fell in the second round to Nini Guensler of Utah State (6-3, 6-2). Freshman Katie Fitt won her first round match when her opponent had to retire due to injury but then lost in the second round at the hands of Magdalena Stencel of Wyoming (6-4, 6-4). All four Cougars will play in the consolation bracket starting Friday at 1 p.m.

All matches are played at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts complex.
