Women finish second in Mountain Region, 63rd nationally

BYU women’s tennis finished ranked 63rd nationally in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I rankings, announced today.

In the ITA Mountain Region, the Cougar women’s team finished ranked second in the 10-team region, while Mayci Jones concluded the year ranked 14th in singles play.  She advanced into the final eight of the region championships, going further then any BYU women’s player had advanced since 2009, when Kristina Doerr went all the way to the semis. Jones played at the No. 1 singles position and was named to the All-WCC Second Team.

With one of its most successful seasons in recent years, BYU finished second in the West Coast Conference with an 8-1 mark, 12-8 overall and also went undefeated at home. The team broke into the national rankings during the year and was ranked as high as No. 52.

The Cougar women were one of three WCC schools to finish in the top 75 in the nation. Pepperdine was ranked 24th while Saint Mary’s ended the year at No. 47.
