PROVO, Utah -- No. 67 BYU women’s tennis looks to rebound as it travels to Southern California for matches against No. 57 UC Irvine and No. 55 Long Beach State Friday at 1:30 p.m. PST and Saturday at noon, respectively.

“This weekend is another great opportunity for us to play some ranked teams,” BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “We are looking forward to some great matches.”

The Cougars (2-4) broke into the ITA rankings last week for the first time since 2011 and face their fifth and sixth ranked opponents this season in the Anteaters (4-5) and 49ers (7-1).

Last week, BYU lost to rival Utah in a hard-fought match, 4-3. Picking up victories for the Cougars were three freshmen: Mayci Jones, Toby Miclat and Savannah Ware. Jones beat Tereza Bekerova, 7-5, 3-3 (wd). Miclat defeated Paige Miles, 6-2, 6-7, 10-8, for her 15th win of year while Ware ousted Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa, 7-6, 6-4, to improve to 10-6.

The Cougars return home next week for two matches beginning with Nevada March 6 followed by the West Coast Conference opener against San Francisco March 8, respectively.
