PROVO, Utah--The fall tennis season kicks off as BYU women's tennis hosts the BYU Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. MDT Thursday and running through Saturday afternoon.
Players from BYU, Wyoming, and Southern Utah will be taking part in the tournament.
"This is a great tournament for our girls to get some good matches under their belts before we get into the thick of our fall tournaments," BYU coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "I am excited to see our girls compete, especially since we have five new members this year."
The tournament will be the debut for five BYU freshmen--Demi Daniels, Mayci Jones, Toby Miclat, Sydney Monson and Savannah Ware. This incoming class was ranked No. 3 among mid-majors by he Tennis Recruiting Network.
The Cougars look to rebound from the previous year's tournament in which Desiree Tran and Meghan Sheehan-Dizon lost in the doubles final. Prior to 2012, BYU had claimed three-straight doubles titles and five-straight singles titles
The tournament will begin at the BYU outdoor courts Thursday with doubles starting at 9 a.m. and singles starting at 12 p.m.
Admission is free and open to the public. Tournament results can be followed at the USTA website.
