PROVO, Utah – Head coach John Brooks will lead the BYU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams against his alma mater in the Deseret First Duel against Utah Saturday at 5 p.m. MST at the Ute Natatorium.

“It will be a great opportunity to play a noble opponent,” Brooks said. “They have a great team and so it will be great competition. It will be a test to see who trained harder over the Thanksgiving break.”

Last season both the BYU men’s and women’s teams won. The men’s team won 161-139 and the women’s team won 162-138. Both the men’s and the women’s teams have won five out of the last six meets against Utah.

The Deseret First Duel began in 2007 and includes competition in 12 sports during regular-season play. The Duel uses a system that awards points to the winner of each head-to-head competition and the winner is awarded a team trophy. Points won count towards the schools’ overall total and at the conclusion of each school year, a granite traveling trophy is awarded to the overall rivalry series champion. The winner of the swimming meet is awarded three points each for both the men’s and the women’s teams.

Check the men’s schedule page for results of the meet.
