Women Finish Dual Meet Season

DENVER -- The BYU women's swimming and diving team ended the season by winning a three-team meet with New Mexico State and the University of Denver, Saturday, but lost a dual meet competition to Colorado State, 145-98, Friday evening.

BYU scored 52 points, second-place New Mexico State had 34 points, while the University of Denver scored 27 points to finish third. The Cougars won 6-of-13 events en route to the victory. First-place finishers for BYU included Jennifer Teerlink in the 1000 free, Amanda Grant in the 400 IM and Monica Ferrell in the 500 free. BYU's 200 medley relay team finished in first place to gain seven points. Second-place finishers included Melissa Thompson in the 1000 free, Rachel Mason in the 200 fly, Amy Thompson in the 100 back and BYU's 200 free relay team.

The divers were led by Kelli Einfeldt and Anna Tutunnikova. Einfeldt won both the 1-meter and the 3-meter boards with scores of 250.45 and 282.00, respectively. Tutunnikova was close behind, finishing second in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter events.

On Friday against Colorado State, BYU lost 145-98, winning 5-of-13 events. Heidi Lietz won the 50 free for the Cougars, while Ferrell won the 200 fly and Grant the 200 breast, with a season-best time of 2:23.21. Second-place finishers included Codi Jensen in the 1000 free, Thompson in the 200 back, Jennifer Tasker in the 200 breast and BYU's 400 medley relay team.

Tutunnikova won two of BYU's five events against Colorado State, sweeping both the 1-meter and the 3-meter springboards with scores of 273.08 and 305.03, respectively. Her score on the 1-meter board is a season-best. Einfeldt finished in second-place in the 3-meter event with a score of 278.93.

The women's swimming and diving team will resume competition, Feb. 14-17, at the Mountain West Conference Championships.
