LEWISVILLE, Texas– Natalie Bennion concludes her junior season with her personal-best time in the 100 butterfly at the Western Region Four Corners Speedo Championship Series.

“We are proud of Natalie and her commitment to keep working and improving, even though the regular season has ended,” assistant swim coach Yolanda Bates said. “She trained primarily on her own and achieved season and lifetime bests at the meet, which is impressive to do without the rest of the team here.”

On Thursday, Bennion had a rough start during the preliminaries in the 100 freestyle, her first event of the meet. She came back during the finals and placed 10th overall at 51.4 seconds--her third-fastest time of the season.

During the 200 freestyle event on Friday, Bennion posted a season-high time of 1:51.19 and placed seventh out of 126 women.

In Bennion’s final day of competition on Saturday, she completed a solid preliminary swim in the 100 butterfly, with a time of 56.06, which rivaled her personal-best time of 55.93. She placed seventh in the finals and set a new personal record of 55.69 to end her junior season.

Bennion also time-trialed the 50 free on Saturday and recorded a 23.75 time. The event will be held on Sunday and her standing will be determined then.

The next upcoming event is the 2017 Division I NCAA Men’s Championships, which will be held March 22-25 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Kevin Dreesen and Payton Sorenson, from the men’s swim and dive team, will participate in the event. More details will be posted on the BYU swim and dive homepage.
