Day One Final Results

MONTEREY PARK, Calif – BYU men’s and women’s swimming are off to a solid start at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, reaching first and third place after the first day of competition.

“Our men are doing really well and both of our women’s relay teams did a great job,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “Almost everyone who swam relays had a lifetime-best time in one their split times, so they’re off to a great start.”

The men’s team came up with a big win in the 800 free relay. Rainer Ng, McKay King, Stott Bushnell and Jake Taylor clocked a time of 6:31.41 for the solo win of the day. Taylor’s anchor time of 1:36.01 was his personal best in the event and helped secure the win for BYU.

In the men’s 200 medley relay Ng, Chad Sorensen, Lucas Aquino and Jordan Fletcher took third place, coming in close behind Hawaii and Pacific. The Cougars completed the event in 1:29.38 with the help of Ng who led the event and recorded his personal lifetime-best time with a split of 22.12.

The women’s 200 medley relay team of Hailey Campbell, Riley Buer, Kimberly Doroghian and Andrea Grant kicked off the meet with a third-place finish. They completed the event following closely behind UC Santa Barbara and UC Davis, with a time of 1:40.90.

The team of Allison McCormick, Angela Bennion, Alexandra Dodds and Valerie McMullan contributed to a fourth-place finish in the women’s 800 free relay. They finished the event in 7:21.32.

Tomorrow’s events include the men’s and women’s 500 free, the 200 IM and the 50 free, with preliminaries beginning at 10:30 a.m. PST. Diving will also begin tomorrow in Pasadena, Calif., with the men’s and women’s 1-meter competitions also beginning with preliminaries at 11 a.m. PST.

All events can be streamed live via online webcast, tracked live via live results and monitored via smartphone on the Meet Mobile app. Check the men’s home page each night for results.
