Cougars travel to Colorado for season opener
PROVO, Utah – The BYU men’s and women’s swimming teams travel to Colorado to compete in the Intermountain Shootout hosted by Colorado Mesa University this weekend.
“I’m excited to travel to a two-day meet where the swimmers can really focus on a couple events in a day,” head coach John Brooks said. “In our intrasquad events, the meet is over within a few hours and this gives them a break and a chance to swim fast.”
Both BYU and Air Force have been invited to compete in the event. The Cougars did not attend the invitational last year and will make their first appearance Friday. However in last year’s Intermountain Shootout, the Air Force men’s team dominated the invitational against CMU and Northern Colorado University.
BYU last competed against Air Force in February in the MPSF Championships where the Cougars took second and third and the men’s Air Force team took sixth. This will be the first time BYU competes against Colorado Mesa University.
The meet will begin on Friday, Oct. 11, beginning at 6 p.m MDT. Day two of the event will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at the El Pomar Natatorium in Grand Junction, Colo.
